About the service
Does it cost anything?
No. Sevenoaks Driving Test Swap is completely free to use – there's no charge now and there never will be. DVSA doesn't charge to swap either.
Who runs this service?
It's run by Geoff Newman, a DVSA-approved driving instructor (ADI) in Sevenoaks at Sevenoaks Driving Lessons, 46 High Street, Sevenoaks. The swap service itself is independent, and not part of or endorsed by DVSA or the government – we help you find another learner to swap with, and DVSA makes the swap.
Could signing up put my test at risk?
No. Signing up, being matched and saying yes don't change your booking, and we can't see or change it. Your test only changes if you and the other learner both phone DVSA, and DVSA either swaps both tests or leaves both as they were.
Will I get lots of emails?
No. We only email you about your swap – for example when a new swap fits your dates, or when the other learner replies. Tips and offers are a separate, optional tick box. You can pause matching or delete your details from any email.
Will you sell my details?
Never. We don't sell or pass on your details to anyone. Following DVSA's advice, we never share your email address or phone number with other learners. Once you've both agreed to swap, your swap partner only sees your first name, your test details and your booking reference.
Is there a driving test swap app?
There's no official DVSA app for swapping. Since 12 May 2026, apps, bots and booking services aren't allowed to book, change or swap a test for you – only you can, on GOV.UK or by phoning DVSA. Sites like this one can only help you find another learner to swap with. This site works in your phone's browser, so there's nothing to download. Never pay an app or website for a test date – see 'Test scams' at the bottom of any page.
What's the difference between swapping and changing my test?
Changing is when you move your own test to a different free date, time or centre, which you do yourself online. Swapping is when you and another learner exchange your existing bookings with each other – you each end up with the other's exact date, time and test centre.
Can I swap?
Can I swap my driving test date with someone?
Yes. DVSA lets two learners with car tests booked swap them with each other, as long as you both agree and DVSA's rules are met. You each phone DVSA, and DVSA swaps both tests at once. We find you a learner with a test at Sevenoaks who wants your date and has one that suits you.
Which tests can be swapped?
Standard car driving tests, where both learners already have a test booked and each wants the other's exact date, time and test centre. You can only swap your own test – you're not allowed to change, swap or cancel a test for someone else.
Why can my weekday test only swap with another weekday test?
DVSA only swaps tests of the same type, and weekday tests are a different type from evening, weekend and bank holiday tests (they have a different fee). So a test on a weekday (Monday to Friday) can only be swapped with another weekday test, and a test on a Saturday, Sunday or bank holiday only with another weekend or bank holiday test. We work this out from your test date and only ever match you with the same kind.
Can I use this for an extended test?
No. Sevenoaks Driving Test Swap is for standard car driving tests only. We can't help with extended driving tests for disqualified drivers.
How much notice is needed?
The swap must be requested at least 10 full working days before the earlier of the two tests. Monday to Saturday count as working days; Sundays and bank holidays don't. That's why we only accept tests far enough away, and we tell you the last day you can both phone DVSA.
How many times can I swap or change my test?
DVSA allows 2 changes per booking, and a swap counts as one of them – so you could swap twice, or change your test once and swap once. You can swap if you and the other learner each have at least one change left. If either of you has used both, the swap can't go ahead.
Which test centre does this cover?
Only Sevenoaks driving test centre – both learners must have a test booked there. DVSA's rules also allow swaps with a few nearby centres, but this service is just for Sevenoaks.
Do I need to check with my driving instructor?
Yes. Before agreeing to a swap, check that your instructor agrees you'll be ready on the new date, and that they and their car are free at that date and time. Also check the new date doesn't clash with exams, work or holidays. We'll ask you to confirm you've checked before you choose or accept a swap.
How it works
How do you find me a swap?
You tell us your test and the range of dates you'd take. When another learner wants your date and has one in your range on the same kind of day (weekday, or weekend and bank holiday) – and your date is in theirs – we email you.
Can I choose dates I can't do?
Yes. After choosing your date range, tap any dates that don't work for you, such as school or holiday dates. We'll never offer you a swap on those dates.
What if there's more than one possible swap?
We email you a link to your options page, which lists every swap open to you. You choose the one you want, and we ask that learner to confirm.
What happens when we both say yes?
You each get a private swap page. You add your DVSA booking reference and see the other learner's, because DVSA needs each of you to give the other's. The page shows the last day you can phone DVSA and tells you who calls first.
How do we actually swap?
By phone only – not online, by email or webchat. Learner 1 phones DVSA on 0300 200 1122 (option 2, Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm) to request the swap. Learner 2 then phones the same day to confirm it – DVSA recommends by 4pm. Each of you passes security checks and agrees to a legal declaration. We tell learner 2 as soon as learner 1 has called.
What do I need when I phone DVSA?
Your own driving licence number, your own booking reference, the other learner's booking reference, the payment card you used to book (not needed if your instructor booked before 12 May 2026), the date, time and centre of both tests, and details of any tests you've taken before. DVSA will never ask for your card's full number or security code.
What if one of us gets swapped and the other doesn't?
That can't happen. DVSA only makes the swap once both learners have phoned, and then changes both tests together. If anything goes wrong – one of you doesn't call, fails a security check or changes their test – both tests stay exactly as they were.
Do you check the other learner's test is real?
We check every learner's email address is real before they can be matched. We can't see DVSA's bookings, so we can't check their test – but DVSA does when you each phone, so nobody can swap a test that isn't theirs. If anything seems wrong, use 'Report a problem' on your swap page.
What if learner 2 can't call the same day?
DVSA's swap request expires at the end of the day if learner 2 hasn't called, and DVSA won't tell learner 1. Learner 2 can press a button on their swap page and we'll ask learner 1 to phone again – as long as it's before the deadline.
Can I change my test while a swap is in progress?
Don't. If either of you changes your test date, time or centre after learner 1 has called, the swap request is no longer valid and you'll need to start again. Updating your address, email or phone number with DVSA doesn't affect it.
Can I message the other learner?
Yes. Once you've both agreed to swap, your swap page has a Messages section, so you can agree a time to phone DVSA or sort out a problem without sharing your phone number or email address. They get an email when you send a message. For your safety, messages can't include phone numbers, email addresses, licence or card numbers, or links.
Who can read my messages?
You and the other learner. We keep a record of messages for 6 months after your swap ends, and only read them if one of you reports a problem or we need to investigate misuse. If anything worries you, use 'Report a problem' on your swap page.
Can I change my mind?
Yes, at any point until DVSA has made the swap. If you've chosen a swap and are waiting for a reply, withdraw your request from Manage my swap. If you've both agreed, use 'We're not going ahead' on your swap page and we'll let the other learner know. If you're learner 1 and you've already phoned DVSA, you must also phone DVSA again to withdraw your consent – otherwise the swap could still go ahead when the other learner calls. Once DVSA has completed the swap it can't be undone; swapping back would be a new swap and would use another of your 2 changes.
Can I pause matching?
Yes. If you're going on holiday or aren't sure yet, choose Manage my swap and press Pause matching. We won't email you about swaps, and other learners won't see your test, until you start again. Your test and dates are saved.
How do I change my details or the dates I'd like?
Choose Manage my swap at the top of any page and enter your email address. We'll email you a link where you can change your name, your test date and time, the dates you'd like and the dates you can't do. You can't change details while a swap is in progress.
Can I register more than one test?
No. Each email address can only have one test registered. If your test has changed, update it from Manage my swap instead of signing up again. Please only register your own test – driving instructors can't register tests for their pupils.
I'm a driving instructor. Can I use this for my pupils?
Please recommend it to them – it's free. But since 12 May 2026 only the learner can book, change or swap their test, so your pupil must sign up with their own email, accept the swap and phone DVSA themselves. See 'For instructors' at the bottom of any page for a message and poster you can share.
What if the other learner says no, or doesn't reply?
We'll let you know and you go straight back on the list. If you had other options, you can choose another one. A request lapses if there's no reply within 48 hours.
What happens after the swap?
You'll have the other learner's original date, time and test centre, and they'll have yours. DVSA emails you both your new booking details. You keep your booking reference, payment details and any special requirements on your booking.
Your details and safety
What should I never share with another learner?
Following DVSA's advice, never give another learner your driving licence number, theory test pass certificate number, address, phone number, email address or payment card details. The only thing you need to share is your booking reference, and we pass it on for you. If you need to talk, use the messages on your swap page.
How do you keep my details safe?
Your details are encrypted in our database, which is hosted in the UK, and the site only works over a secure connection.
How long do you keep my details?
Until you stop using the service, your swap is complete, or your test date has passed – whichever comes first. Unconfirmed sign-ups are deleted after 48 hours.
How do I stop?
Every email we send has a 'Stop swaps and delete my details' link. Click it and your details are deleted straight away.
Should I ever pay someone for a test slot?
No. Never pay anyone for a test slot or a swap. This service is free, and anyone asking for money isn't us. See 'Test scams' at the bottom of any page for the warning signs and how to report them.
Based on DVSA's guidance Swapping your driving test with another learner driver (last updated 1 October 2026). DVSA's rules can change, so check the guidance before you swap.
